Studies show that the difference between companies that are good and companies that are great is the synergy gained by having high performance teams.  And, when these high performance teams are studied, certain characteristics show up consistently as shown below.
  1. Team BuildingHaving a sense of Common Purpose. This is not merely a slogan that is hung on the wall, but something crafted by the leadership group that has within it, powerful words that transform the way they look at what they do in terms of a common goal.
  2. Each individual having a Clear Role defined as a part of the overall process. This is more that just a job description but is again, a statement of responsibilities that are crafted by each person and agreed to by the company leadership. It assumes each person knows best what it takes to do his/her job with excellence.
  3. Each leader has skills to create an environment such that his leadership is an Accepted Leadership. This may require behavior modification and confidence building in the leader.
  4. We will take a look at all the processes to assure that they are maximally Effective Processes. Some of this may involve the creation of processes such as interdepartmental communication and relationship building. In other regards, it may be making processes clear as it connects interfaces.
  5. We will search for ways to build Solid Relationships, intra- and inter-department, which will create a climate of cooperation. We cooperate best with those we believe we have valued, interdependent relationships in the work place.
  6. We will take a look at the current vehicles for communication to see where holes may exist which prevent Excellent Communication. These are not always formal communications such as progress on a particular program, but can also be informal ones that we often have in passing with each other.
